In 1984 I was twelve years old.  I had a major crush on Ralph Macchio from the Karate Kid.  I read in TeenBeat or Bop or one of those magazines that I used to spend my allowance on that Ralph Macchio loved Bruce Springsteen.  So, I started saying that I loved Bruce Springsteen–because this way, when I met Ralph and we fell in love, we would have something in common.  Sharing music taste is what it takes for a good marriage, y’know?  My dad listened to country music and that was all we were allowed to play in our house at the time, so I had no clue who Bruce Springsteen was.

Halloween Costume Review – I’m a Parisian Showgirl this Year (ooh la la)!

It is almost that time of the year again when all attention turns to October 31st – Halloween.

For me, Halloween is one of the best days of the year. I have always enjoyed myself throughly every Halloween, since I was 5 years old I think.

I enjoy everything about the holiday: talk about carving pumpkins, attending a bonfire party, playing pranks or any other thing that can rush my adrenaline. I am not expecting any less this year.

In fact, I decided that after years of walking around as a parent, I am going to start wearing Halloween costumes again. And I’m going large this year – well, hopefully not tooo large.

Always Remember

Do you know someone who has died from an overdose?

I do. Two overdoses in my circle, actually. One very close relative many years ago, and a friend who died less than 4 months ago.

Overdosing is a truly sad, meaningless way to go. It leaves families and friends feeling terribly guilty, asking themselves “what did I miss” and blaming themselves with, “I should have been there!”.

In my friends case, his family had even covertly cut his hair while he was sleeping and sent it in for a hair follicle drug test – just to make sure he wasn’t lying about his use.

He was lying, of course. Addicts always do.
